Memorial Day Weekend travel expected to be busier than ever

Well, you guys, whether it's a train, a plane, a bus, or the road, people will be out this Memorial Day weekend. Some of the folks I spoke to are already hitting the road, and it says that at least 11% More people will be taking the trains to get to their destination. But many folks are opting for that old-school road trip.

I just needed a few days off. We have a six month, and it's our first trip to Cape Cod, and we're going to see our family, and there's going to be about nine kids and ten adults, and maybe for dogs, so we wanted to get there early. And getting a head start is a good thing for this family. Experts like Tracy Noble with AAA say they expect almost 400,000 Connecticut residents to travel this Memorial Day weekend.

That's up 6% over last year, and it will be the second busiest Memorial Day on record since 2000. She says 80% of people travel by car, like the Reagan family. We're all getting back to normal. Now, experts say the reason why so many more people are going to be on the road this weekend is because of gas prices. The average price right now is $3.57 Compared to $4.68.

This time last year, that decrease alone is prompting more people to get out there and travel, especially taking road trips, whether it's by plane, train, or car. People say that this weekend is about being with those you love, like these two brothers together, safe once traveling to Alabama while the other goes back to California, each to see family. People are trying to hold each other close and enjoy another opportunity to be with each other, and hopefully, everybody's making it travel-wise.

For those traveling on the road this weekend, experts say that it's essential to ensure your car is ready for the road. Make sure that you have your emergency kit updated. Also, give yourself plenty of time on the road, or even if you're traveling by plane, make sure you get to the airport a little early in New Haven D'Andrea Turner Fox 61 Connecticut's news station.
