Best Winter Getaways in the Midwest
If you're looking to get away this winter but want to stay within a reasonable distance, today we're talking about the best winter getaways that are right here in the Midwest. Travel expert Katie Keough joins us now with all the details. Thanks for coming by. Mike, cue the snow—today's perfect day. People like to stay in the snow in the Midwest. That's right. Well, we're talking about the best Midwest winter getaways.
And first up, we have a town called Cadillac, Michigan. Have you been there? No. Okay, it's only four hours from Chicago, and that's just a four-hour drive. It's not too bad. They have the cutest little ski resort. They're called Hyper Fe Peaks. It's a resort that has 30 runs. They've got a great list.
They've got night skiing fun for the whole family here we bring the whole family and skiing, but only some people like to snow ski maybe you're more into snowmobiling so you can do that here you can snow bike they have I was going to say they're biking. They have 500 miles of snowmobile and 100 miles of hiking trails, so they've covered you. You can stay here at Mackenzie Lodge that's or a place called Coyote Coyote Crossing if you're a snowmobile, or that place is a must. Oh, that's cool.
You're hungry. Gotcha covered—yeah, clam Lake, beer company. And then there's the Blue Heron Cafe. If you want a little breakfast or if you want to go to the graveyard and socialize for a little beer and tacos, they've got you covered there. I love it. Yeah, their destinations are chill, though. It's more like jeans and beer kind of, it's very crowded. Yeah, I crowd too, so Cadillac Michigan, you can go to Cadillac michigan.com For more information.
Check that out. One of my favorites is Galena. Cutest little town and it's right here in our states. It's only two and a half hours away from Chicago. It's quicker of a trip, but it is like a Christmas Hallmark card. If you've ever wanted to beat a Norman Rockwell painting, it's in Galena. They have over 125 different shops and restaurants. So there is lots to do there. There's candlemaking, you know, bring your couples or a girlfriend getaway. But they decked out for this season in Galena.
So if you want that holiday experience, Galena is your place. They have so much going on in this place called Fried Green Tomatoes. They decorate, and you get a great meal there. But I love this December tent. It is a living Luminara, with 5000 lights that they put out throughout the city. So cool. In the town, you get your hot chocolate, and they have actors in the windows and little scenes they act out.
Did you guys watch Gilmore Girls? Yeah. Exactly. It's my favorite place. I love everything I will say about Galena, the two-lane highway. I fell in love, and Galena left me the first time my husband said I'd love to teach galena.org. If you want more information, okay. And then Lake Geneva, Lake Geneva.
That's 90 minutes from Chicago. So it is a a very close, easy trip, you can go to the Abbey resort. They just redid the Abbey. So there's lots to do there in the winter. Lots of activities like ice skating. They have like little cozy little fireplaces. There you go. There's ice skating.
And then, you know, you can do snowball fights. They have scavenger hunts for kids. They do a wine and murder mystery that you can do there, and it's just a fun little getaway. And they read it they're spa 35,000. I mean with my friends and family. I'm taking my mom there in December honeymoon. It looks like the tennis court is what they redid to ice skate.
What do you like to do? Ski to ski tuba. That's so fun. I love to go so fast. I'm spending snowmobiling. I'm going to Coyote Crossing in December, and you can snowmobile into the cabins. Then you go right out on the trail amenities there, so not only do you check out these individual places if you go on the state website, but they also probably have to give you guys a little mix.
We've got you covered if you want to go somewhere for the holidays. There's so much to do. You must set you guys up for your little cozy hot chocolate here. Yeah. Good season this year. I'm feeling alright, Katie. Thank you so much. Information is going to be up on your screen. She always has great MUFON places that you can visit. Let's go with Katie Keel and her social media handles, and I'll have that all up on my site, too.
